Dr. Filbert is an international consultant in the fields of international human rights law, international criminal law, transnational criminal law, international humanitarian law, and transitional justice. With this expertise, Dr. Filbert has particularly specialized in understanding, combating, and preventing trafficking in persons (human trafficking), corruption, money laundering, and related crimes. He has worked to develop frameworks for transnational and international state and institutional cooperation in the suppression of these crimes. He has published extensive reference materials in these fields. In the East African Community, and especially in Tanzania, Dr. Filbert represents an expert of impeccable character and legal practitioner in this field. Dr. Filbert brings to the Firm the civil-common law experience of litigation and corporate integrated practice. His stay and research in South Africa and Germany for several years, together with his contacts with legal practitioners across Zambia, Botswana, Germany, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, Kenya, Uganda, Lesotho, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Ghana, position the Firmin a unique position to deliver seasoned and exceptional legal services comprising of, and catering for, clients and institutions across multiple and diverse jurisdictions on earth.
Dr. Filbert is also a Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law specializing in teaching and researching human trafficking prevention and control in Tanzania and the Eastern African region, transnational crimes, international humanitarian law, international criminal law, human rights law, public international law, as well as migration and citizenship law. . Further, Dr. Filbert consults in the areas of transitional justice, succession and administration of estates and trusts, commercial and business law, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution with extensive research background on the nascent arbitration and ADR legal framework of Tanzania, and Tanzania’s criminal law in general. He is affiliated with the African-German Research Network for Transnational Criminal Justice based at the Faculty of Law, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Germany.
